Become a Writer

Kenpo Thoughts is a free online publication/blog service. We are looking for those that have some writing skill to contribute articles and other postings. Your contribution will ensure that Kenpo Thoughts will be fresh with new content and point of views.

How can I Become a Writer?

It’s fairly simple. There are 2 ways that you can contribute.

  1. Through your Login Account – Create an account and request through the comments section of the bottom of this page, to set you up as a contributor. This will allow you access to our editor that function very similar to a word processor. You will be able to upload images and other types of content.
  2. By Email – Email us the article with photos attached and after an editorial review, it will be posted. We will even set up an account for you if you do not have one already.

In either case, all posting will be go through editorial approval and editing (mostly to make sure it fits within the design if the site).

What can I Write About?

Pretty much anything. What we are craving are;

  • News and Events – Great way to let others know about what’s coming up in your school or group. Tournaments, seminars, school opening, promotions and new website. As long it’s about Kenpo/Kempo you can submit it.
  • Styles and Systems - We always need more of these. Write articles about the finer point of you system or maybe it is a system that many people don’t know about. Then give us an overview.
  • Reviews – Want to be a critic? Review a product, seminar, video, or other.
  • Interviews – Who doesn’t like to get in their favorite Kenpoist’s head.
  • Bio’s and Profiles – Want to tell about you instructor’s martial arts history? Maybe you are trying to get you name out there. Then write a one about yourself.
  • General Articles – History, opinion pieces, training tips, or something we haven’t thought of. Go ahead, send it to us.

Do you Approve all Articles?

No. If you submit something that is not relevant to a Kenpo practitioner, it will not be approved. Some things can be approved more easily than others. Such as news items. These can be short and to the point. While opinion pieces, history, and other general articles will be approved based on how well it was written. We do not have any hard and fast rules about this but, here is a list of things that will not be approved.

  • Martial Arts Politics – We stay away from those.
  • Rude Attacks on Whatever – Although we allow, and really need some, reviews, we will not allow any bashing. All critical articles must be done in good taste. No campaigns against whoever or whatever.
  • Duplicate Content – If we already have one, it may not get approved. Unless it is better than the other article covering the same subject.
  • Copyright Issues – No copy and paste unless it is yours.
  • Bad Writing – We are not grammar purists here but, articles that are written so badly that it would require an editor to rewrite the whole thing….not going to happen….most of the time.

Why Should I Bother??

You don’t have to. But for those thinking about it, here are some benefits.

  1. Get Noticed – Get you name out there. This can help in a variety of ways. It can be in the form of free advertisement as your contributions could help your school or system. Kenpo Thoughts has always had a decent amount of traffic. Averaging over 50,000 hits a month. With this new system, we expect to triple that easily this year.
  2. Give Back – For most of us, Kenpo/Kempo has enriched our lives.  Just another way to give back.
  3. Be Heard – Forums will make you heard, unless your drowned out by the other 100 people posting about what you wrote. Eventually it turns into a debate that has nothing to do with what you originally posted. Your original post ends up in the background. At Kenpo Thoughts, the original post is always the focus. The replies are in the background.
