Martial History:
James M. Mitose was born in Hawaii in 1916. In 1920, James M. Mitose was sent to Japan. At the age of 5, he was schooled in his family’s art, Kosho/Kenpo. Thus James Mitose became the 21st Great Grand Master of Kosho/Kenpo.

James Mitose returned to Hawaii, in 1937, and brought to America 800 years of Kenpo Heritage. His first black belts, in chronological order, were; Thomas Young, Jiro Nakamura, Arthur Keawe, and Paul Yamaguchi.

Note: William Kwai Sun Chow was promoted to Black Belt by Thomas Young, not by James Mitose. Although he was a student of Mr. Mitose.

In 1974, Mr. Mitose was tried and convicted of extortion and murder. He was sentenced to Folsom prison. There is a great deal of debate on if he was actually guilty of the crime.

James Masayoshi Mitose died on March 27, 1981.
Kenpo Thoughts Note:

Mitose is known for bringing Kenpo to America. Without Mitose, no Kenpo.
There is much debate about Mitose’s lineage. I have my own opinions on this matter. Sorry, I won’t share. The bio you see, is what has been commonly believed. There is no proof to support much of this. True or not, this what I have up for his bio. If you wish to learn more about this man, try doing some research on him.
